Seam-seal Explained
-
The Physical Barrier: A seam seal is a specialized waterproof thermoplastic tape that is applied to the interior side of the garment’s stitched seams.
-
The "Welding" Process: This isn't just sticky tape. It is applied using a high-heat industrial machine that uses hot air or a heating element to melt the tape’s adhesive backing.
-
Fusion: As the adhesive melts, the tape is pressed firmly over the seam, essentially "welding" itself to the fabric. This creates a permanent, flexible, and air-tight bond that covers the needle holes.
-
The Material: Most tapes are made from Polyurethane (PU) or a similar polymer that matches the waterproof coating or membrane of the jacket itself.
